However, she did not contest the recently-concluded Lok Sabha 2019 elections and opted out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new cabinet, due to health reasons.
Just hours before she passed away, Sushma Swaraj thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed her happiness at the passing of the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, which divided the state into two Union Territories – Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. “Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime,” she tweeted.
