Bollywood producer Prernaa Arora, who was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing on Friday evening for investigation in fraud cases, and was sent into custody on Saturday, December 8, has applied for bail at the Esplande Court, Mumbai today evening. She was represented by senior counsel Rizwan Merchant. The filmmaker, credited for films like Rustom, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Padman, had also issued a statement through her spokespersons on Sunday, December 9, stating t hat she has full faith in the authorities and that she has been wrongly maligned by Vashu Bhagnani’s company Puja Films and there is no truth to the claims being made by the complainants.
Today, in a hearing, that lasted about three hours, her counsel argued that she had not been sent any notices after September 2018 to appear before the EOW of the Crime Branch, Mumbai Police. Her lawyer also cited negligence, loopholes and time lapses in the investigation and brought up that the officials had not adhered to the provisions of section 41 (a) and (b) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and challenged the basis of Prernaa’s arrest.
The official from EOW, the investigating officer of the case also presented his side, stating that Prernaa was in possession of two passports and PAN cards with different details on them apart from various other facts and findings. The judge heard both sides. Since the argument went on till a little past 7 pm, the case will be heard again today at 3 pm. Until then, Prernaa will remain in EOW custody.
