Badhaai Ho director Amit Sharma, who is looking forward for his sports biopic based on the Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, says that it is a big responsibility rather than a competition.
Amit has cast National Award-winning actor Ajay Devgn to play the lead in the biopic on the big screen. The director spoke about the competitive space of a sports biopic during the interaction with the reporters at Bollywood Film Journalist Award 2019 in Mumbai on Monday.
”It is competitive, I think everything nowadays is competitive. I am just going with the story and how the story unfolds and what a great man he was,” Amit Sharma. ”I am sticking with the story as much as possible, and the reality as well because it is a big responsibility to tell a story of a man who actually existed,” he added in his statement. “So I see it as a big responsibility rather than being in competition,” Badhaai Ho director further added.
In July last year, the makers announced the sports biopic on Twitter. They wrote, ”Elated and proud to announce a story never told as the biopic on India’s legendary Football coach, Syed Abdul Rahim, starring Ajay Devgn.”

According to an earlier report, Boney Kapoor, the producer of the film spoke about casting Ajay Devgn to play Syed Abdul Rahim to a leading daily.
“I was amazed that not many are aware of someone as significant as Syed Abdul Rahim. He is an unsung hero whose achievements must be saluted. His team had heroes like Chunni Goswami, PK Banerjee, Balaram, Franco and Arun Ghosh,” said Boney.
