Nineteen-year-old Pune boy Chetan Salunkhe has won Remo D’souza’s dance reality show Dance Plus 4. Popular as the ‘Popping Badshah’, Chetan amazed the audience with his act in the grand fi nale. Partnered with international artist Marquese Scott, he not only took home the trophy, but also Rs 25 lakh with which he plans to buy a apartment for the family and get his two sisters married. “I hadn’t expected to win, I thought I will make it to the third or fourth position,” he admitted.
Sharing memories of his favourite celebrities on the show, the dancer says, “I’m a huge fan of the Marathi actress Ketaki Mategaonkar and the team arranged a meeting with her. I also got to dance with superstars like Prabhu Dheva and Govinda sir with the latter gifting me shoes and clothes. Then, Madhuri (Dixit) ma’am danced with my mom who is her fan.”
Unlike his competitors who tried out different dance forms, Chetan stuck to different variations of popping which he has been training in for five years all through the show. “I took classes for two years and after that I would practise on the streets and watch videos,” he reminisces. “Remo sir told me he has not seen such dance moves before.” Interestingly, he had auditioned for the show three times but only got selected in the fourth season.
His mother works as a household help because his father can’t work due to a leg problem. “She had taken several loans which we could not repay so I had to quit school and work after the 10th standard. I asked mom to give me one chance to take part in this show but I never thought I will win,” he says still somewhat dazed by his good fortune.
